In 2012 we carried out a topographical survey along 26km of the existing A5025 on Anglesey for Horizon Nuclear Power. The purpose of the survey was to allow the designers, Mott MacDonald, to design access improvements from the A55 expressway to the Wylfa nuclear power station site on Anglesey. The improvements are required for the future construction of the Wylfa B power station, to be constructed alongside the existing power station.A rigorous control station network, comprising of 200 stations was installed along the route. The positions were determined by GPS RTK methods, tied into the Ordnance Survey Active Network and subsequently transformed to the client’s local grid requirements. The levels were tied into the OS datum by double run spirit levelling.Survey data was collated using both Leica GPS RTK equipment and where higher accuracies were required by Leica total stations. The completed survey data was presented to the client in CAD and MX Genio formats.
