Our topographical survey experience also extends to Network Rail site
surveys.
This year we carried out a survey along the North Wales mainline at
Llysfaen, through a steep cutting leading to a tunnel portal. The survey
was required to enable the design of slope stabilisation measures to
stabilise the batter slope.
Our surveyors worked alongside a Controller of Site Safety (COSS), due
to the risks of working alongside a high speed live line. The cutting slope
had been constructed at almost a 1:1 slope in places and supported
midway by a gabion basket wall, so was deemed unsafe to access on
foot. The slope was subsequently surveyed using the reflector less
capability of our total stations along with rope access methods.
The completed survey was delivered to client as a 3D CAD drawing.
